Diving the HMAS Canberra
Dive the Ex HMAS Canberra with IDC Scuba and get the most out of your dives on this magnificent wreck.
The wreck was scuttled in 2009 and sites on the sand in 30 metres outside Port Phillip Heads. The top of
the wreck is only 12 metres from the surface. It is over 130 metres long and is sitting almost upright facing
the prevailing swells of Bass Strait.
Some of the features of the wreck include the Helicopter Deck and Hangers, Bridge, Galley, Communications
Room, Missile Launch Area, Engine Room plus many other interesting rooms. The wreck was purpose
designed to dive on and it is very hard to get into trouble on this dive site.
It is a 20-25 minute boat ride from Portsea Pier and we dive the wreck almost every weekend
(Weather permitting). Our fully qualified and experienced guides will take you to all the best parts of
the wreck and ensure you see all of the interesting aspects of this wreck.
Before you book in you should ensure that you:
- Have a minimum of Advanced Open Water qualifications
- Have logged at least 20 dives
- Have a recognised penetration certification if you want to penetrate the wreck
- Experience in temperate water diving recommended
